Attempted vehicle burglary in Kearny leads to arrest of Newark man

KEARNY – A Newark man was arrested in Kearny Thursday after police observed him attempting to burglarize a vehicle as well as enter a residents backyard without consent, officials said.

According to the police report, on May 14th at approximately 7:00 p.m. Detective Ray Lopez was patrolling the area of Maple Street and Patterson Street when he observed a male lurking on his bicycle near a parked 1997 BMW vehicle.The male allegedly attempting to burglarize the vehicle by sticking his hand inside the vehicle through a partially opened window as if he were trying to push the window down. No objects were taken from the vehicle. The male then proceeded to enter a nearby backyard in the area.

Police arrested 18-year-old Jeremy Postel of Newark and charged him with attempted burglary and trespassing.
