BAYONNE MAYOR DAVIS COMMENTS ON FIRST SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION IN 35 YEARS

Mayor Davis discusses 24 million dollar structural deficit and Exxon Settlement

Mayor Jimmy Davis today issued the following statement:

(Bayonne, NJ) – “Yesterday was a historic day for our City as we not only paid witness, but took part in the first School Board Election in over three decades. Having campaigned on establishing an elected Board as opposed to an appointed one, this day was rewarding.

From the day we endorsed this change on the campaign trail, to the day the City Council voted to present the question to the voters, to the overwhelming mandate to change the system, to the tally being taken last night, this has been a rewarding experience.

To those who ran I say: Thank you. Thank you for putting your name forward in what can only be considered the ultimate job interview on a stage that is 35 years in the making.

To those who were successful: I look forward to working with each and every one of you to move both our City and School District in the right direction. Based on my relationship with each of you, I am confident in what we can accomplish. Tough decisions will undoubtedly have to be made and we may not always agree, but in the end our love for this community will prevail.”
