HARRISON – A 30-year-old female was assaulted in a Harrison parking lot after leaving her restaurant and bar job early Monday.
According to the police report, at around 2:23 a.m. Officer Darren Raefski was patrolling the area of Harrison Ave near Economy Way when he heard a female yelling from the parking lot of El Meson De Luis, located at 217 Harrison Ave.
A security guard was attempting to separate a male and female in the parking lot area. The male was allegedly holding the female by her hair and was attempting to strike her in the face with a closed fist. The security guard was able to block the male.
When Officer Raefski entered the parking lot, the female victim ran up to him with noticeable marks on her face and chest from the assault. She stated that she was an employee at El Meson and that the male was a customer who was waiting for her in the parking lot. The victim stated that she was not in a relationship with the male and that she only knew him from the establishment.
The male was immediately placed under arrest. Officer Raefski notes in the police report that he could smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the male and that he showed all signs of being intoxicated. While at headquarters, he provided officials with several different names and addresses until eventually slurring his real information.
Jose Paralta, 56 of Kearny Ave. in Kearny, was charged with simple assault.
The victim refused medical attention and while at headquarters she was visibly upset and did not want to wait for the complaint to be generated. According to the report, she wished to leave and go home because she had to go to work in the morning.
Paralta was released to his nephew.
