The caller, a Harrison resident, stated that at around 6:00 p.m. he noticed an unattended Polo brand suitcase sitting next to a mail box on the corner of 3rd Street and Jersey Street directly under the Islamic Center. He stated he did not know who left the suitcase there nor did he have any idea of the contents. He further explained that the Mosque has never received any type of threat in the past sixteen years.

At the time of the call, the entire Mosque was in the middle of prayer and was at full capacity with men, women, and children. When Police arrived to the location they used caution tape around the surrounding area while quickly and efficiently evacuating all parishioners in the Mosque and all residents adjacent to the building. After the buildings were clear they returned to the area of the suitcase to prevent any and all foot traffic within the area.

Jersey City Police Officer Lopez responded to the scene with his bomb sniffing K-9 named Smokey. Harrison Fire Department and Emergency Service Units were dispatched to the scene as a precautionary measure. Smokey began a detailed search of the suitcase and surrounding area and nothing out of the ordinary was found. The suitcase was searched and deemed non-threatening. No further information is available.
