KEARNY – A Kearny male was arrested Thursday for assault, obstruction, and resisting arrest following an altercation with another male that took place at the intersection of Highland Avenue and Woodland Avenue, near Washington Elementary School, officials said.

According to the police report, on May 14th at around 3:30 p.m. Vice Units responded to the location on report of a fight. When they arrived, a 34-year-old Kearny resident was bleeding from the side of his head, near his ear. An ambulance was summoned to the location to treat the man for his injury but he refused any medical attention. A witness told police that the man was engaged in a fight with another male that started for unknown reasons.

When police asked the male to cooperate he became confrontational and uncooperative. The man allegedly tried to push past officers before being forced to the ground and handcuffed.

Arrested was 34-year-old Ahmad Smelly of Kearny. Smelly was charged with obstruction, resisting arrest, and assault.
