According to a Jersey City police report, on August 8th around 4:52pm  Officers Sandwith and Mitchell were dispatched to 196 Grant Street on a report of aggravated assault. Two men were in the middle of an argument, one of them trying to avoid a fight when the other male, Basim Marshall, AKA Jahim, was trying to initiate a fight. The victim was walking away but Marshall had followed him into his backyard which led to a physical altercation.

According to the victim, he had won the fight. The victim then stated that Marshall fled the scene to his residence which is a few houses down the street located on Grant Ave. The victim was hanging out with his sister when shortly after, Marshalls returned to the victim’s home with a knife. The victims tried to run inside the house to avoid being stabbed but Marshalls forcefully opened the door and swung the knife at the victims.

He missed and the victim grabbed a large ceramic decoration and struck Marshalls on the head multiple times. Marshalls then kicked the victim multiple times in the abdomen. The fight resulted in Marshalls fleeing the scene and ending up in Jersey City Medical Center, being treated for non life threatening punctual wounds.

Marshalls was then arrested for having two open warrants for aggravated assaults, terroristic threats, burglary and possession of an unlawful weapon and hindering apprehension for giving false information.

Basim Marshall is not a stranger to Jersey City police. On July 29th, Hudson TV reported that Mr. Marshall was charged with robbery, receiving stolen property and CDS charges.
