Union City celebrates St. Patrick’s Day with Irish flag raising ceremony

Today in Union City, an Irish flag raising ceremony was held outside City Hall. The ceremony honored all the Irish members of the community and their contributions to the city.

One very special person, Ellen Cifarelli, was given a proclamation by the city and honored as the Distinguished Irish Person of the Year. Ellen, who is a teacher in the Union City school system, immigrated to this country with her family.

Ciferelli was joined by her mother when raising the flag, and was thrilled she was able to be part of the day. Commissioner Lucio Fernandez said, “She is very loved by all her children in her school, the administrators, and she does give back to the community.”
